The best classic chocolate chip cookies are here! Perfectly baked, the quintessential cookie texture, and everything you’d love and dream about having in a cookie – and the recipe is right here for you! The search is over, this is the winning recipe, the winning cookie, and the easiest recipe to make it all happen.

The search for the perfect recipe

Here on my website, I’ve shared quite a few cookie recipes, and so I felt kind of silly thinking anyone would really need another one – especially one that’s as common as chocolate chip cookies. I also am rather fond of my “Best chocolate chip cookies” recipe – if it’s truly the best, why would I need another one? However, it was the style of cookie that put me on the hunt again. Those ones are more along the taste and texture of my Levain style cookies (thick, packed, dense, but still super delicious). Last year, I loved making JoyFoodSunsine’s amazing chocolate chip cookies for when my boys got from from school. We loved the recipe. It’s perfection. However, I’m not one to usually have salted butter around, use only a smaller amount of vanilla in my bakes, and I didn’t have any sea salt this time. So this year when school started last week, I made the adjustments to the recipe below to reflect our personal changes we’ve made to fit our kitchen and family! We all loved them just as much, and I loved being able to glug in a little more vanilla, use my preferred choice of unsalted butter in my bakes, and just added regular salt to the dough as I do with my other recipes. I think we’ve found a winning combo!

How to make the best chocolate chip cookies

The perfect chocolate chip cookie strikes a harmonious balance between a crispy edge and a chewy center, packed with gooey chocolate chunks that melt in your mouth. There’s tons of recipes out there, and lots of them are great, but I wanted to make sure we had one that was perfect every time and could be my go-to recipe whenever we needed a quick batch of amazing cookies.

What makes them so perfect? Ideally, they have a golden-brown exterior that gives way to a soft, slightly under-baked middle, making every bite an indulgent experience. The dough should be infused with a buttery aroma and a hint of vanilla, complementing the rich chocolate flavor. Achieving this perfection often involves chilling the dough before baking, allowing flavors to meld and intensify, but with this recipe, there’s no chilling required!

Yep – NO chilling for this one! Just make em, and bake em!

Ingredients for the best chocolate chip cookies:

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Unsalted butter
  • granulated sugar
  • brown sugar
  • eggs
  • vanilla (use the good stuff)
  • flour
  • baking soda
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • semi sweet chocolate chips

The directions are listed below with the instructions – including a quick video that shows how it all comes together.

Helpful tips:

I like to press on some chocolate chips RIGHT after the cookies have been baked. You can press them on before baking, too, if you’d like, but I love to do it right after when the cookie are warm and it gets all melty on top.

Adding on a touch of sprinkled sea salt is a fun touch on top, too.

You can sub out the chocolate chips for white chocolate, chopped candy pieces, sprinkles, nuts, or anything you’d like – just keep it to 2 cups and you’ll match the recipe proportions.

We store ours in a Tupperware with a fitting lid and a half slice of bread to keep them soft throughout the week.

Add a little frosting between two cookies to make a delicious cookie sandwich! You an also do ice cream in the middle, too. Yum!

Here’s a quick video of the process:

I can’t wait for you to try these – they are absolute cookie perfection and we can’t stop coming back to making another batch of them!

Happy baking!

xo, Mandy
