Baked Double Chocolate Doughnuts
We’ve had so much fun this week with these Baked Double Chocolate Doughnuts, haven’t we? This week on my Instagram page @bakingwithblondie, we went through a LIVE video making these delicious doughnuts step-by-step. Oh how I love doing those LIVE videos with you! Did you watch it? I’ll bet you’ll want to jump right into the kitchen and get going on these!
Also, what a fun Valentine’s Treat these would be for this weekend, and just about any other time you’re looking for a delicious chocolate doughnut fix!
20 minutes to doughnuts
I shared these doughnuts over 4 years ago on my website, and ever since then, we’ve made and LOVED them (especially around the holidays throughout the year). The best part about these, besides the soft, tender, chocolate decadence that are these insanely tasty doughnuts, is how EASY and FAST they are to make! You don’t even need your stand mixer to make it happen. Just a couple bowls and a whisk. They whip up fast, they bake fast, they set up fast, and you’re going to want to double the recipe because they will ALSO go fast!
DOUGHNUT PAN REQUIRED
Yes, it’s true. You’re going to need one, and I have the one I love and use linked right here. You can also use the mini doughnut pan (you will love this so much that you’ll try to invent reasons why you need to use it asap :)).
Just prep them with a little baking spray or shortening, and PIPE in the batter (using a ziploc bag or piping bag) and you’ll have perfectly shaped doughnuts in no time.
These mouthwatering doughnuts taste like a mixture between cake and brownie batter, and slathered with chocolate ganache? We have an instant win here for your Valentine’s (or anytime) treats.
I used a couple different sprinkle options for these, but as you can see, you can even just dip them in the ganache and call it good! another option would be chocolate sprinkles, chocolate shavings, chocolate curls, or any other kind of sprinkles, too.
I cannot wait to see you guys fall in love with an oldie but a goodie – I wanted to bring them back to the surface on Baking with Blondie, and as you can see, for a very tasty reason :).
Enjoy, and happy baking!
xo,
Mandy

Ingredients
Chocolate Doughnuts
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large whole egg, room temperature
- 2 1/2 Tablespoons melted butter
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 Tablespoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup buttermilk , room temperature
Chocolate Ganache
- 2 cups chocolate melts
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream (add more to achieve desired consistency)
Garnishes
- 1 cup themed sprinkles , we did Valentine's Day this time, but you can use any color/size/shape you want!
Equipment
- 1 Doughnut pan mini or regular sized (or both!)
Instructions
How to make the chocolate doughnuts
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees (F), and prep doughnut pans with a swipe of shortening or cooking spray. Set aside.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, hand-whisk together the egg, melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla, and buttermilk.
- Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the second mixture and mix until just combined (don't overmix).
- Add the doughnut batter to a large piping bag or ziploc bag and snip off the end. Carefully pipe the doughnut batter into the prepared doughnut pan (I usually do a little less than half full).
- Bake for 8-10 minutes (mine were done at 8). Flip out of the pan and let cool completely before dunking into the ganache. Store in an airtight container when they're cool.
How to make the Chocolate Ganache
- In a microwave-safe bowl, stir together the melts and heavy cream and heat for about 30 seconds. Stir, and repeat until the ganache is smooth and silky. Let it cool a little to thicken (and so the sprinkles will stick and not slide off!). If it's too thin, add a little more candy melts and stir. NOTE: If you want the ganache to "set" faster, you can completely skip the heavy cream and just melt the candy melts alone and dip them.
Assembly
- Dunk the doughnuts into the ganache, let the ganache drip off carefully, and place (ganache side up) onto a parchment sheet. Immediately add the sprinkles and let sit to set.
